Tallinn - Estonia
The proposal – in association with Nohnik – reconstructs the original metabolism of the three landforms and over time returns the peninsula to its true identity, fixated in its name: Paljassaare, the bare island.
The transformation will start by opening up the closed in marshland once again and recreate the three landforms – one peninsula and two islands – in accordance to the map of 1914. By digging away the landmass, both islands will become hydrologically isolated from the mainland, and will have individual metabolisms once again. By this, the eutrophication of the marshland will be put to a halt and ecological values and qualities will be preserved and expanded. The islands will once again be called Suur-Paljasaare and Väike-Paljassaare.
